A major research firm has conducted checks on nine types of puzzle mats to see if presence of toxic substances. Seven out of nine mats emit formamide, potentially carcinogenic solvent, banned by the new directive on toys. The EU standard will be a clean sweep of all the dangerous elements, prohibits the use in any quantity. Also lower level than the maximum (heavy metals and allergenic products).
The risks to the use of these mats is not immediate but is revealed over time, was called for the immediate withdrawal from the market, but it is not safe, the advice is to not buy them.
